Food Processors
Cuisinart seems to be the industry leader in food processors. I base this on the fact that they have the most products with great reviews and also numerous reviews on their top products. It’s a product manufacture that is so well known that I have heard some people use the term Cuisinart to refer to food processor. When I was a kid a food processor seemed like a luxury item these days they sell lower end units that are fairly reasonable as long as you don’t need large capacity. There are some non Cuisinart products that have rave reviews so don’t limit yourself by brand. Focus on the features you feel are important for yourself and your family.
One common complaint with Food Processors is the noise level. The cheaper smaller units get some complaints for how loud they are. If you can live with that and don’t need a very large capacity for bigger projects you can get a very nice quality machine at a very reasonable price.
Dishwasher safe is something to look into. If you don’t want to wash the unit by hand you want to look for a product that is dish washer safe. Keep in mind these are made of plastic and should only be cleaned on the top shelf in your dishwasher.
Capacity is very important when making a buying decision. You need to figure out how large a unit you will need. The larger the capacity the more expensive. The reason for this is that it requires a larger motor. For example if you decide on a 5 cup unit. This does not mean you can process 5 cups at one time. The way these things work is that the blade is on bottom. If you stuff too much stuff in them they don’t get to the top items. The lower items end up getting liquified. So a best practice is to only fill the chamber half way for a more even end product.
I personally have owned a second hand 2 cup Cuisinart food processor for 6 years. It has never had any problems and gets a lot of use. It is great for making hot sauce or chopping up garlic very fine. Because my main use is to make hot sauce I have never needed a larger unit. It is too small to make milk shakes which I use a blender for. If I had one complaint it is that it is hard to clean. The blade has an inner hollow chamber that gets dirty and is too small to get a cloth or sponge in there to clean. Sometimes I have to soak the unit which makes cleaning up take a little longer than I would like.
